Born September 2006, "Celebrate Mallory...yesterday, today, forever." was created as a gift to the community from the people of Mallory Wesleyan Church. This year’s festivities will be our 5th annual event. This day is set aside for neighbors to come together in a safe, healthy environment to get to know one another and to renew old relationships. On September 11th 2010, we will once again come together to Celebrate Mallory! Everyone is invited! Whether you are from the community or just visiting for the day, come enjoy!
In an age where our culture tends to isolate us from one another: at work in our cubicles, computers or home offices instead of coworkers to communicate with, children spending countless hours in front of video games instead of outside playing with friends, grabbing a bite to eat at the drive through instead of sitting down to a meal and talking to our family members, rushing from one activity to another 7 days a week instead of time spent with friends and family. We wanted to remind ourselves and our neighbors the importance of building relationships. When was the last time you took an extra minute to sincerely inquire about someone else? Getting to know the name of the person you see every day working behind the counter at the store or gas station you visit regularly? Remember how good it felt the last time someone lent you a hand in a time of need? Better yet, remember how good you felt when you could offer help? Remember how connected you felt when you were able to bring the whole family together for a meal and talked about each others day? Thanks to the involvement of a few of our neighbors, local businesses and non profit organizations, and the blessings of God we are able to create such a day. This year we were honored with a Cultural Resource Council Decentralization Grant. This is a great encouragement.
The day begins with a parade down "Main Street" Mallory (aka: County Route 32 between County Route 37 and Baum Rd). Over the past years, despite the rain and heat, neighbors have enjoyed watching a color guard carrying our Nation’s flag to kickoff the parade.
This year the entertainment will begin at 11:30. Mallory Wesleyan Church not only provides a float depicting the hamlet of Mallory snugly pulled together in community pride but also will be entering it’s own rocket float again this year. We will watch the Central Square High School Redhawks marching band before they rush off to their first field band competition! Many new and exciting entries will be added to the parade. We don't want to give it all away. You will have to come see for yourself. As in the last years, we will once again be treated to an exciting display of antique cars, antique tractors, scout groups, more creatively made floats, local businesses, and service organizations marching along the parade route. The parade ends in a blaze of lights from the local fire departments, SOVAC, and finally the Oswego County Sheriff patrol car. The 2010 parade promises to be even more exciting with more groups participating!
The celebration continues on the lawn at the Mallory Wesleyan Church. Mallory Wesleyan Church is located at the corners of County Routes 12 and 32 and Baum Rd. The site overlooks the beautiful Mallory Pond. In past years, a petting zoo, carnival games, several historical displays, wool spinning, rides in a stage coach, conestoga wagon, or chariot replica, the Civil War Reenactment camp and live entertainment will provided something for everyone. A gas engine display (putt! putt!) and antique farm equipment displays were also interesting to see. This year, a variety of displays and activities promise to be just as inviting.
The Celebrate Mallory Station Post Office is always in attendance. This special post office is only open for this one day on site. The folks from the Mallory and Hastings volunteer their time to provide access to the limited edition postal cancel stamps and event postcards. This stamp is only available on this special day and for 30 days after the event before being destroyed. They also offer information on all the special services the US Postal Service has available.
At the Mallory Wesleyan Church Tent, we have available the event brochures that include performance schedules and a map to locate all the venues. We have free Bibles, church information and some other give-a-ways. Of course, the church building will be open for tour and the sanctuary open for prayer. Pastoral staff and church members will be available for counsel or prayer partners. Or spend some time alone in quiet prayer.
A food tent will be open for your convenience or there is plenty of space to find a grassy spot to lay a blanket and enjoy a picnic from home. ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL PLEASE.
There is something very special about Mallory, New York. People here are anxious to get involved with each other and bring this celebration to fruition. Last year, we had folks come home to Mallory from as far away as Boston, Colorado, and California! Who will come home to Mallory this year?
On Saturday, September 11th, 2010, bring your lawn chair, invite a friend, bring the family and help us....
